This opening is for a senior level position in the R&D Department of Drill Bits & Services which is a Halliburton PSL (Product Service Line). The candidate will be responsible for new product development from specification through conceptualization to commercialization.
The focus of the development efforts will be in an expansion of the portfolio offerings in the Down Hole Tools (otherwise known as Drilling Performance Technology Products) sub-product service line.
The candidate will work closely with the product managers and various operations personnel (regional managers, applications engineers, deployed technology managers) to understand the applications for these products, participate in the generation of road map of activities from a high level specification and product vision and then drive execution of the product line vision.
The candidate must be able to work independently, evaluate and execute tasks in a timely manner to predict and meet project deadlines. Some of these efforts include technical readiness assessments, requirement and specification development, project planning, development execution, laboratory and field testing efforts.
The candidate must be able to work independently and with internal and external resources to meet project goals and deadlines. This includes domestic and international personnel.
Additional responsibilities will include periodic reporting of planned and completed development activities, providing estimated completion dates and prompt reporting of issues.
This includes communication with various groups including project management, immediate supervisor, other functions, etc. This role will also involve mentoring and coaching of lesser experienced personnel in order to grow and develop talent.
Knowledge and skills:
o Component and system level design and specification
o Evaluation of assembly and system interactions
o Understanding of pressure, temperature and vibration considerations for downhole environments
o Knowledge of appropriate material selection – including, but not limited to metals, coatings, elastomers
o Understanding of key parameters and ability to articulate tradeoffs for a given application
o Ability to simulate systems and sub-systems, build prototypes, devise test plans, document results and designs and specify design & test systems
o Structural analysis utilizing CAE software
o Knowledge of various experimentation and verification testing methods
o Experience with troubleshooting and analysis of field failures
o CAD modeling and drawing creation
o GD&T application
o Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
o Experience managing projects with cross-functional organizations (manufacturing, operations, product management)
o Experience with drilling processes and practices
o Experience with drilling systems (bottom hole assemblies, MWD/LWD systems, mud motors, etc.)
o Experience with BHA and drilling dynamics analysis
o Requires a minimum degree of BS in Mechanical Engineering. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
o Possession of a PE License (optional)
o At least 4-7 years of related work experience in a relevant field
