Role synopsis
The Engine Cadet is a sponsored Trainee Officer role. As a tertiary graduate, you will be exempt from the vast majority of the academic training required to become an Engineering Officer onboard a foreign going merchant ship.

Key accountabilities
You will be part of a fast track program, designed to accelerate you to into a career in the merchant navy at sea and ashore. To start with, you will receive your practical training whilst on board the BP fleet of oil and gas tankers, sailing worldwide. With a fairly young and diverse fleet, you will be exposed to new and technically advanced tankers to challenge your learning and skills. Whilst on board, you will be under the guidance of either the Chief Engineer or Second Engineer, learning how to operate and carry out all maintenance activities on the main propulsion system, auxiliary equipment and associated plant. You will be required to complete a specific set of tasks and projects as part of your assessment towards becoming an Engineering Officer of the Watch which will give you access to all aspects of the profession.

In order to be considered for this role, you will need to have achieved your bachelor’s qualification in mechanical, electrical, naval/structural engineering or similar. You will need to be able to obtain an unrestricted MCA medical (ENG1).

Essential Education
To be considered for this program, you must have recently obtained your bachelor’s qualification in either mechanical, electrical, naval/structural engineering or similar.

Essential experience and job requirements
You will need to be fluent in both written and spoken English. You will need to be able to obtain an MCA unrestricted medical (ENG1).
