DESCRIPTION OF ROLE   The Vessel Master has overall command of the ship and the entire crew.   They have, under international law and the law of the flag state, the ultimate responsibility for the safe operation of the ship and all personnel onboard. In this capacity they have the authority to take the necessary steps to ensure that safety regulations as well as international flag state and port state laws are adhered to.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES   Overall responsibility for safe navigation and lawful, safe operation of the ship.

Overall responsibility for the safety (ISM Code) and security (ISPS Code) of the ship and all personnel on board and to ensure that safety regulations and precautions are adhered to.

Responsible to provide the services of the ship and its crew to the Offshore Manager, and assist in the timely execution of projects.
During DP operations, the Master shall ensure that Company requirements and IMCA guidelines are complied with.
Overall responsibility for conducting “Master’s Review” in accordance with the ISM code.

Overall responsible, within their field of influence and authority, to the Vessel Superintendent, for ensuring that the ship’s operational and investment costs are kept within approved budget.

Desired Skills and Experience

PERSON SPECIFICATION   STCW 95 (A-II/2) Management Level Certificate of Competency (Master Unlimited) meeting legislative requirements of the Flag State Recognised Seaman’s discharge book Full DP Operator’s Certificate (Unlimited) and experience in accordance with IMCA M 117 Appropriate proficiency in the operation of GMDSS Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing in accordance with STCW Code Table A-II/I Fully conversant with Flag State Maritime Law / Legislation. Fully conversant with ship’s Safety Management System (Ref: ISM Code) Completed Security Awareness training relevant for the position (Ref: ISPS Code) Hold at all times valid Seafarers Medical fitness certificate and offshore survival certification suitable for geographical area of work Previous experience in DSV and/or Subsea Construction and/or Pipelay vessels is essential.
