Job Role SummaryAs part of Baytown Engineering Services Department, the Maintenance Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing plans to improve maintenance efficiency of the business teams they support and facilitating the development, execution, and stewardship of the detailed Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP). The Maintenance Engineer will be located in Baytown, TX and will interface with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering on support needed for maintenance efficiencies, including, but not limited to the following: ensuring all business plan items are cost justified and prioritized, driving cost efficiencies in the delivery of maintenance through improved work processes and performing regular analysis of maintenance spend to identify opportunities for improvement.Job Role ResponsibilitiesAnnual Maintenance Planning Process

  • Business Team point contact for compiling detailed maintenance line items
  • Help ensure all line items in the business team plan are justified, prioritized, and correctly categorized
  • Coordinate and support risk assessment activities and obtain cost estimates when needed
  • Provide consistency check across multiple Business Teams prior to reviews with “cold eyes” advisors
  • Compile overall budget proposals and site risk curves for review with Leadership Team
  • Steward progress against approved annual plan
  • Inform Business Teams of “critical few” AMP items upcoming

Routine Maintenance Efficiency Improvement

  • Perform analysis for non-Process areas to improve efficiency
  • Perform work efficiency calculations to justify efficiency improvements
  • Evaluate and eliminate low value work such as repetitive preventive maintenance activites
  • Evaluate barrier data and make recommendations for improvement to the Business Teams
  • Identify new initiatives required to meet Business Team maintenance cost goals

Maintenance Efficiency Venture (MEV) Technology Implementation

  • Responsible for driving implementation and/or penetration of MEV technologies
  • Help eliminate organizational barriers to further MEV implementation
  • Develop stewardship mechanisms to track MEV implementation progress
  • Participate in audits / field verification to measure effectiveness of maintenance efficiency related activities
  • Participate as members of area-wide MEV Team

Routine Maintenance Stewardship

  • Support development of stewardship reports required by the Business Teams and present progress to Mechanical leadership
  • Perform monthly analysis on maintenance spend to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Track and report benefit capture of various improvement initiatives

Longer-term Improvements

  • Develop multi-year strategic maintenance plans for specialty equipment classes as requested by Business Teams and approved by direct supervisor

Engineering Support

  • Interface with Engineering on support needed for maintenance efficiency
  • Occasionally perform “quick hit” engineering tasks within their disciplines when needed by the Business Team
  • Interface monthly with other Maintenance Engineers from site/area to share best practices and coordinate work load

Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering
  • Experience supporting petrochemical industry operations
  • Experience in facilitating teams & team decision making
  • Able to analyze cost data and summarize information for Business Teams
  • Able to influence the business to use the most efficient means to execute routine maintenance work (influence without direct authority)
  • Capable of effectively identifying and analyzing gaps versus target and determining appropriate gap closure plans
  • Able to develop and effectively present improvement proposals for maintenance effectiveness
  • Capable of effective change management in a large organization

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of risk based work selection (RBWS) concepts
  • Leadership skills in driving peers & management to accomplish common goals
  • Preferred proficiency in MS Excel (including Pivot Tables) and MS Access
