AfDB Pushes Energy and Youth Job Creation Agenda at World Economic Forum 2016

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is participating in the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa taking place from May 11-13, 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital.
President Akinwumi Adesina is leading the Bank’s delegation at the event whose theme is Connecting Africa’s Resources through Digital Transformation. Adesina is expected to discuss the New Deal on Energy in Africa and Job creation for Africa’s youth, which are the Bank’s key focus areas at the WEF.
High level panels in which President Adesina will take part include Implementing Africa’s Development Agendas; Africa’s Fourth Industrial Revolution; and Shaping New Energy Realities for Africa, amongst others.
The President, together with other WEF Co-Chairs, will address a press conference, highlighting their expectations for the meeting and their outlook for Africa. They include Adrian Monck, Head of Foundations and Public Engagement, Executive Committee Member, World Economic Forum; Tony Elumelu, a renowned entrepreneur; Graça Machel, a renowned international advocate for women and children’s rights; Dominic Barton, Global Managing Director, McKinsey & Company; and Tarek Sultan Al Essa, Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of the Board, Agility.
A press conference on How can Africa become an integrated continent with free movement of people, goods and talent will be held, where President Adesina will draw from the first Africa Visa Openness Index and the 2016 Africa Visa Openness Report, an AfDB publication launched in February 2016.
The 26th World Economic Forum on Africa brings together regional and global leaders from business, government and civil society to discuss digital economy catalysts that can drive transformation and strengthen public-private collaboration on development challenges. They are expected to agree on strategic actions that can deliver shared prosperity across the continent.
