E.ON to build 228 Megawatt Onshore Wind Farm in United States

0

E.ON has officially announced that it will build the 228 megawatt onshore wind farm Bruenning’s Breeze in Willacy County, Texas. The wind farm will feature 76 three-megawatt turbines provided by the German manufacturer Nordex. Bruenning’s Breeze is scheduled for commissioning at the end of next year. Today’s announcement comes as the Company is currently constructing its Radford’s Run Wind Farm in Illinois.
“This decision reflects our strong commitment to further develop renewables in the US market. Projects like Bruenning’s Breeze demonstrate that we are clearly competitive with conventional power and we will continue our goal to further drive down the costs of renewable energy,” said Michael Lewis, CEO of E.ON Climate & Renewables.
The project, which is named after Michelle Bruenning, a member of the E.ON US legal team who passed away from cancer in 2014, will be E.ON’s 22nd U.S. wind farm. Overall, the Company has installed more than three gigawatts of wind power in North America where it is a leading operator of onshore wind farms.
Apart from energy networks and customer solutions, renewable energy is one of the main pillars of E.ON’s strategy. With its offshore wind projects Rampion in the UK, Arkona in Germany, and the onshore projects Radford’s Run and Bruenning’s Breeze in the US, E.ON is currently installing wind turbines with a total generating capacity of roughly 1,300 megawatts.
