Doha – Qatar, Qatargas and RasGas celebrated the loading of the 10,000th liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Ras Laffan Port on Monday, 9 May 2016.
The LNG cargo was loaded on board the Q-Max LNG carrier “Mozah,” which is bound for the South Hook LNG Terminal in the UK. The vessel, chartered by Qatargas from Nakilat, is among the new generation Q-Max LNG carrier, the largest type of LNG carriers in the world, which is able to load a full cargo of 260,000 cubic meters of LNG.
In comments on the occasion, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, QP President &  CEO, said: “The achievement of 10,000 LNG cargoes from Ras Laffan Port is a testament to all the hard work and dedication by Qatar Petroleum as well as  Qatargas and RasGas, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar.”
Mr. Al-Kaabi added: “This milestone further demonstrates QP’s commitment, as the developer and operator of the world’s largest LNG port facility, to giving the utmost priority to safety, security, and efficiency. I am confident that this, and future milestones, will  further cement Ras Laffan Port’s leading position as the premier port facility for cleaner energy.”
Commenting on this achievement, Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas, said:  “Qatargas is the World’s Premier LNG Company, and we are proud to work alongside world-class companies at Ras Laffan Industrial City. This historic event — the safe and reliable transportation of the 10,000th LNG cargo from Qatar — is a tribute to the combined expertise of our partners, staff and contractors. This remarkable feat underscores our commitment to operational excellence, and I congratulate everyone who has made a valued contribution to delivering safe and reliable LNG to our customers.”
On his part, Hamad Mubarak Al-Muhannadi, Chief Executive Officer of RasGas, said “this export milestone symbolizes how the State of Qatar has developed natural gas into a resource that has benefited not only our people but many countries around the world. Together with our sister company Qatargas, RasGas has contributed  toward  the development and growth of Qatar economy, and together we have consistently demonstrated our ability to meet customer’s expectations and their energy needs, thus ensuring our place as one of the world’s largest LNG exporters, bringing much benefit to our country and building a solid foundation for its long-term sustainability.”
The milestone 5,000th LNG cargo was loaded from Ras Laffan Port in June 2011, nearly 15 years after the first loading in 1996, while the recent 10,000th LNG cargo milestone was achieved in just about 5 years’ time.
With RLIC providing the common facilities of land, infrastructure, port and cooling water, the companies based in Ras Laffan are in a strong position of growth and prosperity. Ras Laffan Port is ultra-modern and one of the top exporting ports in the Middle East and Asia. Since commencing operations in September 1996, the port and its berth facilities have been increased significantly to cater to the exports of new and expanded industries. With six operational LNG berths, the port is the world’s premier LNG exporting facility and the only gateway for Qatar’s LNG. Ras Laffan Port provides an essential strategic link in the chain connecting gas production derived from the North Field with the end users of gas, liquid and associated products across the world.
