AGL Annual Volunteer Week Activities Supports Over 4.5 million Customers in Local Communities

ATLANTA – AGL Resources and its family of companies touch the lives of more than 4.5 million customers in 1,100 communities each day. While the company demonstrates its responsibility as a community partner year-round through various volunteer initiatives, employees collectively will focus their energy on making a positive difference in their communities during the company’s second Volunteer Week.

Between May 11 and May 17, employees, retirees, community partners, and their families and friends will participate in 41 volunteer projects. The range of activities include stocking shelves at a suburban Chicago food pantry, delivering hot meals to seniors in metropolitan Atlanta and sprucing up an oyster hatchery in southeastern Virginia.

“As a company, we believe wholeheartedly that giving back to the communities we serve and call home is the right thing to do,” said Melanie Platt, executive vice president and chief people officer. “AGL Resources Volunteer Week celebrates our employees’ commitment to volunteerism and highlights our desire to build and sustain vibrant communities. Through this company-wide initiative, we’re living our values and showing that our collective energy matters.”

The company-wide effort that began last year recently was recognized by the Southern Gas Association (SGA) as winner of SGA’s 2015 Community Service Award.

Some of this year’s highlighted projects include the following:

  • AGL Resources employees will continue their longstanding support of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity by rolling up their sleeves during the kickoff ofconstruction of an energy-efficient home, marking the company’s 25th Habitat build.
  • Atlanta Gas Light will “Treat our Troops” by baking homemade goods, packing them up and sending them off to military service members on May 13. Employees at several regional service centers will complete outdoor cleanup activities in their local communities.
  • Florida City Gas employees will help clean up A.D. Barnes Park /Leisure Access Center, a facility for adults with special needs, in Miami-Dade County on May 13.
  • Nicor Gas and Pivotal Home Solutions employees will perform 17 service projects benefiting 14 northern Illinois communities during Nicor Gas’ 19th Annual Volunteer Day on May 16.
  • Elizabethtown Gas employees will work alongside Groundwork Elizabeth during the annual bicycle ride through Elizabeth, N.J. neighborhoods on May 17.
  • Sequent Energy Management will lend support to the graduation activities for the students of Cristo Rey in Houston.
